About Bell Heating & Air
It all started at a factory job.
Hi, I’m Steve Cunningham, owner of Bell Heating and Air. For me, third shift just wasn’t cutting it. The hours were tough, the work wasn’t for me, and I was tired of it! One day a friend asked me, “Why don’t you check out this heating company?” What did I have to lose? I gave it a shot, applied, and got my first job in the world of HVAC.
They hired me on as service but quickly found that my true skills were with the install work. Any technician can complete an install, but there’s an art to completing the perfect install that makes it a clean fit. I loved making the system look awesome for the homeowner.
I spent a few years there before a new opportunity came about where I was really able to broaden my horizons. At this new company we worked in everything from trailers to multimillion dollar houses, commercial, and everything in between. No two customers were alike and it opened up my eyes to the scope of many different types of projects.
Fast forward a few years and another job later I found myself at a turning point: I had no where else to grow. For years I had been doing installs and service for all types of customers, but I still craved more. The business side of these companies intrigued me but I wasn’t able to be involved in it. Finally I made the decision to quit this job without any real foresight on what would come next. Some deep thinking and life-changing conversations opened my eyes to taking the big leap: Bell Heating and Air was born! I applied for an LLC and got my state license. My first few deals were with friends and family but I still wanted to look professional. I chiseled the rust off my ‘08 Grand Cherokee and applied some Bondo to make her look brand new.
That first week in business? I had so many calls, I couldn’t even handle the work. The word spread like wildfire, and it lasted a whole two weeks.
You see, everyone hears about your business when you first start and they all want to help out. Eventually reality set in; that early business dried up, and the second guessing began. “Was this the right move?”
When there’s a will, there’s a way. There was one other tool in my toolbox - appliance work. People needed appliances fixed, and those refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers kept Bell going for months and months.
After enough time the referrals began to come in and business naturally picked up. We finally reached a point where I was able to pitch not just my wife, but also another technician to come on full-time. Finally we had our first crew. My wife, Tarah, handled the calls while Titus and I spent time in the field.
Today, Bell continues to grow and we’re always looking to expand the crew. If you know anyone who might be interested in a career opportunity, have them reach out.
For now, we look forward to continuing to keep homes comfortable, one place at a time!
